Identifying the Theme of the Text
Identifying the Theological Focus of the text
Bringing them to the view of the hearers
Identifying the main point of the Text
Reading the text time and again
Search for the dominating thoughts or idea

Idea is what the text tells about itself
Ideas may be placed either in the beginning or
middle or end
Idea may be an exhortation or challenge or
command or call

Identifying the Purpose of the Text
Identify Purpose of the author – it is identifying the true
intention of the author

Raise few questions like Why does the author says
this
Is the text informing, Correcting, encouraging,
confessing, punishing, celebrating, confirming
What does the text say – obey, commit, proceed etc
