The 3 knots of ecological spirituality according to Helmuth Werner
1. Human responsibility (the 1st knot of Francis of Assisi’s belt)
All people are called to leave the dominant broad road of dominium terre, i.e. a self-destructive exploitation of the basis of life, in the name of the one we as Christians call “God”, in order to turn back onto the path of a real diakonia terre, i.e. a spiritual and material care and healing of our mother earth characterized by reverence for all life. The ecological imperative of Hans Jonas serves as a guide to this human responsibility: “Act in such a way that the effects of your actions are compatible with the continued existence of nature, life and the earth.”
2. Mindfulness is peace (the 2nd knot of Francis of Assisi’s belt rope)
All people are called upon, in the name of Jesus Christ, whom we as children of God venerate as our brother, to give all parts of the earth, all people, animals and plants back their original dignity through mindfulness in love, to recognize them as brothers and sisters and to live in peace with them. An example of this is Francis of Assisi, who praised the origin of all life through the life elements brother sun, sister moon and the stars, brother wind and sister water, brother fire and mother earth.
3. Spirit is life (the 3rd knot of Francis of Assisi’s belt rope)
All people are aware that, even if they are only tiny parts of the universe, they are called to engage with the all-pervading spiritual force, which we Christians call the "Holy Spirit" and through it to enable real life in the here and now in community and in peace with Mother Earth, the plants and animals. This recognition of a spiritual and soul kinship with all living things creates the basis for a coexistence necessary for survival of all parts of the organism of our planet Earth, which is permeated with the spirit of love. Love is the original source of the cosmos, the heart of matter, as Pierre Teilhard de Chardin calls it.
The supporting pillars of eco-spirituality are:
• A simple life has always been the mother of spiritual greatness
• A careful approach to everything we need leads to an ecologically compatible lifestyle
Pope Leo sets the priorities a little differently:
1. Pace – Peace,
2. giustizia – justice,
3. verita – truth
The mathematician Prevost puts peace first, justice second and truth third. There is no essential difference to me the architect:
1. Responsibility,
2. Peace and
3. Spirit is life

1. Verantwortung des Menschen (dem 1. Knoten von Franz von Assisis Gürtel)
Alle Menschen sind dazu aufgerufen, im Namen dessen, den wir als Christen „Gott“ nennen, die beherrschende breite Strasse des dominium terre, also einer selbstzerstörenden Ausbeutung der Lebensgrundlagen, zu verlassen, um umzukehren auf den Weg einer wirklichen diakonia terre, also einer von Ehrfurcht vor allem Leben geprägten spirituellen und materiellen Pflege und Heilung unserer Mutter Erde. Als Wegweiser dieser menschlichen Verantwortung diene der ökologische Imperativ von Hans Jonas: „Handle so, dass die Wirkungen deiner Handlung verträglich sind mit dem Weiterbestehen der Natur, des Lebens und der Erde“.
2. Achtsamkeit ist Frieden (dem 2. Knoten von Franz von Assisis Gürtelseil)
Alle Menschen sind dazu aufgerufen, im Namen von Jesus Christus, den wir als Kinder Gottes als unseren Bruder verehren, allen Teilen der Erde, allen Menschen, Tieren und Pflanzen durch eine Achtsamkeit in Liebe ihre ursprüngliche Würde wieder zu geben, sie als Geschwister anzuerkennen und mit ihnen in Frieden zu leben. Beispiel dafür sei Franziskus von Assisi, welcher den Urgrund allen Lebens, durch die Lebenselemente Bruder Sonne, Schwester Mond und die Sterne, Bruder Wind und Schwester Wasser, Bruder Feuer und Mutter Erde lobpreiste.
3. Geist ist Leben (dem 3. Knoten von Franz von Assisis Gürtelseil)
Alle Menschen sind im Bewusstsein, dass sie, wenn auch nur winzige Teile des Universums sind, dazu aufgerufen, sich auf die alles durchdringende spirituelle Kraft, welche wir Christen den „Heiligen Geist“ nennen, einzulassen und durch sie in Gemeinschaft und in Frieden mit Mutter Erde, den Pflanzen und Tieren echtes Leben im Hier und Jetzt zu ermöglichen. Dieses Erkennen einer Geistes- und Seelenverwandtschaft mit allem Lebendigen schafft die Basis für eine überlebensnotwendige Koexistenz aller Teile des mit dem Geist der Liebe durchdrungenen Organismus unseres Planeten Erde. Die Liebe ist die Urquelle des Kosmos, das Herz der Materie, wie sie Pierre Teilhard de Chardin nennt.
Tragende Säulen einer Ökospiritualität sind:
- Ein einfaches Leben, war schon immer die Mutter spiritueller Grösse
- Ein achtsamer Umgang mit allem was wir brauchen führt zu einem ökologisch verträglichen Lebensstil
Also Tiefenökologie (Arne Naess) eine tiefe Spirituelle Beziehung mit dem Planeten.
Papst Leo setzt die Schwerpunkte etwas anders:
- Pace – Frieden,
- giustizia – Gerechtigkeit, e
- verita – Wahrheit
Der Mathematiker Prevost setzt als den Frieden an die erste Stelle, die Gerechtigkeit an die zweite Stelle und die Wahrheit an die dritte Stelle. Es gibt
keinen wesentliche Unterschied zu mir dem Architekten:
- Verantwortung,
- Frieden und
- Geist ist Leben
